Music City Run for Dyslexia: Going the Extra Mile to Help Our Children Read
Nashville, TN — May 14, 2024 — Learning Matters, a Nashville-based non-profit dedicated to educational equity, proudly announces the 2nd annual Music City Run for Dyslexia, scheduled for Saturday, September 28th, at Shelby Park.
“Dyslexia impacts as many as 20% of people and is the most common learning disability. With proper intervention, Dyslexic students can learn to read and find academic success. Unfortunately, intervention is not always accessible, and private tutoring is a financial burden for many families,” said Executive Director Christie Andrews, M.Ed., emphasizing the urgent need for support.
“Net proceeds from the event will help to provide free and low-cost tutoring for students in our community and reading instruction to teachers,” stated Andrews, highlighting the direct impact of the event’s fundraising efforts. Additionally, sponsorship packages ranging from $250 to $10,000 are available for individuals and businesses eager to support this vital cause.
The Music City Run for Dyslexia invites participants of all ages and abilities to join in the festivities, with options including a qualifying 10K, a 5K, and a 1-mile Dyslexia Dash.
The certified course leads runners and walkers through Shelby Park. Jen Andrews ran the 5K last year and remarked, “The course was flat and mostly shaded – it was ideal!”
“We designed the Music City Run for Dyslexia to bring our community of providers, schools, families, and business leaders together to celebrate each other and destigmatize Dyslexia,” remarked Joan Borinstein, Director of Advancement for Learning Matters. “From serious runners to casual walkers, there is something for everyone.”
Participants and supporters alike are encouraged to visit DyslexiaRun.com to learn more about the event, register, or explore sponsorship opportunities.
