Christie guides the direction of Learning Matters, consults with parents, provides advocacy for students, trains teachers and leads the assessment process. It was after teaching in a low-income, predominantly Hispanic community in Southern California when Christie developed a passion for literacy education and providing opportunities for success in school for all children. After moving to Nashville, Christie joined Bowie Reading and Learning Center as the Associate Director and was mentored by Bobby Bowie. She immediately saw the enormous impact that one-on-one teaching can have on the self-esteem and academic achievement of students, but was acutely aware this was not available to low-income families.

Christie is the mother of five children. She enjoys reading, painting, running, cooking and gardening. Christie holds a certificate in Language Acquisition and Development and a Master’s degree in Instructional Leadership.


michelle-robertsMichelle Roberts, Office Manager
Michelle Roberts has been the office manager at Learning Matters, Inc. since 2013. She is responsible for accounting, scheduling and overall general operations. In addition to these duties, she assists tutors to ensure they have everything needed to provide excellent teaching and learning experiences.

Michelle, a graduate of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville with a degree in Education in Secondary Mathematics, is a former teacher. She previously taught High School and Middle School in Knoxville and Williamson County, TN. She also taught preschool at Nashville’s St. Georges Kindergarten for 6 years. Along with her teaching experience, Michelle worked in banking for many years as a commercial loan officer and branch manager.
